5 Juventus Scudetto-winning Number 10 duos

‘94-’95: Roberto Baggio (17 apps/8 goals) and Alessandro Del Piero (29 apps/8 goals)

Juventus waited nine long years to recapture the Scudetto. Was it just coincidence that the first Ballon d’Or winning presence in the squad since Platini helped their return to glory?

Roberto Baggio had been purchased in 1990 to fill Platini’s Number 10-shaped hole in the team, and by 1993 he’d inspired Juve to win the UEFA Cup and ran the all-conquering AC Milan machine a close second in the league.

A season later they went one step better and toppled the almighty Milan in Serie A, and although Baggio missed almost half the season through injury, his contributions, when fit, were instrumental – scoring 8 goals (four of which were decisive) and creating another eight in key victories.

When missing, Juve were ably assisted by the phenomenal emergence of Baggio’s very own heir, Alessandro Del Piero, who announced himself to the wider world with an outrageous winning volley against Fiorentina. A legend in the making here, Del Piero would go on to establish and oversee a dynasty for the Turin giants that would even surpass the Platini-era.
