5 Juventus Scudetto-winning Number 10 duos

‘11-’12: Andrea Pirlo (37 apps/3 goals) and Alessandro Del Piero (23 apps/12 goals)

The first Italian club to go unbeaten in a 38-game league season, this team was built on a solid defence – although, as Paolo Bandini wrote in the Guardian, “the signing of Andrea Pirlo on a free transfer following his release by Milan will go down as one of the most brilliant pieces of business ever conducted by the club – and one of the Rossoneri’s most boneheaded.”

Pirlo’s arrival once again sparked another period of domestic dominance, helped by his league-leading 13 assists. Curiously, Pirlo wore the number 21 shirt – the same as Juve’s previously successful fantasista, Zidane.

Meanwhile, the number 10 which had been well and truly tattooed onto Del Piero’s back had, unsurprisingly, begun to fade after 19 epic years with the club, and his departure was announced for the end of the season. Nevertheless, he went out on top by lifting the Scudetto again – the sixth eighth of his career.
