5 Number 10s with points to prove in 2016/17

Javier Pastore @ PSG

Paris No10

Stepping out of the enormous shadow cast by the number 10 shirt’s previous incumbent, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, is simply what is expected of the silky Argentine playmaker, by both fans and the owners of PSG.

By his own admission, Pastore hasn’t yet hit the heights of his Italian-best with Palermo, but there should now be a freer sense of expression for the creatives who potentially felt obligated (and therefore a little stunted) to build every attack around the Zlatan-shaped epicentre.

With no shadow, there will be nowhere to hide – particularly after the symbolic gesture of the club’s owners to grant the Argentine with the sacred number.
