Napoli club captain and trequartista Marek Hamsik believes his side can win the Serie A championship, but admits he’s surprised by their form.
The Partenopei are currently second in Italy’s top-flight just behind Inter Milan, who they meet on Monday night, and have been in scintillating form this season having remained unbeaten in 17 matches.
Speaking to Sky Italia after their latest victory, in the Europa League – which they have progressed to the next round in boasting a 100% record – Hamsik admitted the team’s exploits have surprised him.
I honestly didn’t expect Napoli to be this successful, although there was already some good material to work with last season.
Scudetto? We can believe if we continue to play well. There’s a very long way to go, so we can’t say, but if the results arrive and we keep playing like this, then we can believe in the title.
Looking forward to the top of the table clash against the current Serie A leaders from Milan, Napoli’s playmaker added:
It will be a complicated match as they’re the leaders but we are playing at home and we will play how we always do.
