Rai: PSG have element of surprise against City

Number 10 playmaker Brazil Paris

PSG playmaking legend Rai insists that his former club must take risks if they are to overcome Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final.

The tie is delicately poised after the sides drew 2-2 in Paris, and whilst that scoreline and the suspensions to David Luiz and Blaise Matuidi seem to favour the Premier League team, Rai feels PSG now have the element of surprise.

Speaking to PSG’s official website, their former Brazil Number 10 star stated:

We all hoped to see PSG not conceding goals on the way [to the second-leg], but at this level of play, the opportunities are inevitable. One thing is certain, PSG will also create chances in the return as this is a quality team and that will raise your game to bring danger to the opponent, even away from home.

PSG should especially find the right balance: to set out to win the match but also remain solid at the back and not concede goals, especially on the counter. PSG has the potential to win in Manchester.

Even though we have suspensions, Marquinhos is a player from the Brazilian national team – this is a symbol of quality. If he replaces David Luiz, I’m sure he’ll have a great match.

The absence of Matuidi in midfield is really a big loss. He is a great athlete, dynamic, who spares no effort, but everyone knows that Laurent Blanc has the players necessary to compensate for his absence. He should take advantage of this to change the team and surprise the opponent. Blanc has the means to surprise the City.

Unless the game ends in a draw with three or four goals for each side, PSG has the obligation to win. And this is always an advantage. The team cannot think of anything else, even if the balance is to be maintained. One must take risks, the players have to keep this in mind since there is no other choice but to win. This position can have a positive effect.
