As European club football began its new season for 2017-18 one of the more unusual decisions the sport’s governing bodies still refuse to contemplate is that of closing the player transfer window to coincide with the big kick-off.
And as such, speculation continued to thrive, as did the quite public unsettling and pursuit of unsecured targets, all whilst teams and coaches simultaneously attempt to concentrate on the matter in hand – and supposedly, the point of it all – to gain victory by scoring more goals than the opposition on the pitch.
Neymar’s £200m transfer from Barcelona to PSG provided the shock factor and was the high (or low, depending on your viewpoint) mark of an eye-watering summer transfer window were fullbacks have changed hands for £50m and the ‘average joe’ price now starts at £10m at the very least.
