Giovinco: My goal for Conte

Number 10 playmaker

Sebastian Giovinco believes he’s in contention for a spot in Italy’s Euro 2016 squad, but admits he hasn’t yet spoken to coach Antonio Conte.

The MLS Player of the Season for 2015 is preparing for a second campaign with Toronto FC, and hopes to continue the devastating form which saw him score and create a total of 35 goals in his debut year.

After his agent had earlier quashed the notion of temporarily returning to the European football scene ‘on loan’ in between MLS seasons to enhance chances of securing a place in the Azzurri squad, Giovinco recently told Calciomercato.it:

I haven’t spoken with Conte, I know that everything depends on my matches here but if I deserve it then he’ll definitely call me up for the national team.

My goal and the goal of the [Toronto FC] team is to improve on what we did last year and try to improve our position in the table.

We must not make blatant errors like we did last year, working and understanding what we can do better than last season; that must be our objective.

Toronto FC’s No10 was said to be a January target for European champions Barcelona, but the Spanish giants are yet to make further contact.
