Also a Sao Paulo legend, the 1994 World Cup winner actually played more times for PSG, becoming the club’s first ever Brazilian captain and cementing iconic status in Paris.
Such was his impact in leading the Parisian’s to many successes including the club’s second ever Ligue 1 title, two Coupe de France and two League Cup trophies, as well as the only European trophy in the club’s history: the 1996 Cup Winners’ Cup, it’s not for nothing Rai was decorated with a Legion of Honour award 15 years after leaving.
Phenomenally averaging more than a goal in every three games from a classic midfield playmaking position during his time in France, the elegant Rai created even more, forging a unique bond with PSG which led to fans voting him as their ‘Player of the Century’.
